Ever since Farm Meat Market was founded in 2016 by William Farrugia, it has since established itself as one of the leading meat processing companies on the Maltese Islands.
Interestingly, the company’s roots date back to the early 1940s, when Mr Farrugia’s late grandfather, Vincent Zahra, known as ‘tax-xkejjer’, started operating San Blas Farm Ltd. Being a family-run pig farm, its operation and management required a complete team effort. Mr Zahra had taken William under his wing to teach him everything there is to know about the industry. Later on, William’s uncle, Philip Zahra, was responsible for the general maintenance and production of the farm before it was eventually passed on to William. Ultimately, this helped William garner the knowledge, experience and skills in the field, in the years to come.
All pigs produced at the San Blas Farm, are handed to Farm Meat Market for processing. All products will then be sold at our factory butcher shop, Farm to Fork. Here, we value the true customer experience — besides selling, we make it a point to offer our time and advice to our esteemed clients to ensure that they are fully satisfied with their chosen products. In the past, visiting the butcher was considered to be a social experience, where people wanted to know what was fresh during that week and how to prepare and cook the meat to perfection. Throughout the recent years, the farm-to-fork and sustainable food movements have once again become more prominent, with new butchers combining old techniques with modern ones.
Mr Farrugia’s passion and dedication laid the foundations that were needed to help the company enjoy the success it has today. While more opportunities and changes came along from one generation to another, high standards have and will always been maintained, and only the finest products are sold to the local market.
